Set the Scene
The Geek Factor is a social media game development competition. We are looking for artists, programmers, developers and audio graduates to self-organise into a team of 5, with an assigned team manager. The aim of the competition will be to develop a social networking game called Weforest. The aim of the game is to teach a mass audience about the importance of reforestation with respect to climate change, in a fun and engaging game, which reaches out to the masses and raises money for real world reforestation projects. The competition will run for 5 weeks (3 weeks development and 2 weeks marketing/deployment) and the teams will be judged by a panel of console and social media game experts. Games will be judged on aesthetics and audio, fun and engagement, game mechanics, opportunity for micropayments and longevity of the game. Statistics will also be taken into account such as the number of people playing the game and if money was raised via the game in the 2-week marketing period. Farmville was created in 5 weeks and now has 60 million users per month and has raised almost $3 million for charity! The winning team will be assigned a 12 week contract to complete and polish the game and work with celebrities for voice-over and music, to give the game that ‘star appeal’. The team will also be first in line for the new development team being created within Digital 2.0 to work on a ‘Top Secret Project’.
